Coastal with a Twist – Manyung Gallery Christmas Show

I am please to announce that six members of the fox family will be exhibited in the Manyung gallery’s huge mixed Christmas show, opening this Friday 28th at 6-8pm. Manyung is situated in Mt Eliza, on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. You can preview the exhibition online if you are not in the vicinity of Mt Eliza. The show is on until 24th December. I am hoping to head down to the opening myself. Please RSVP your attendance via text to the gallery.

Lady Növa O’Leveret

Hello Hello!

I hope all is well in your world. This post has been a long time coming, Lady Növa O’Leveret has been a hard one to pin, being a Solitary Witch and only Hare in my current series, and as I have recently learned, she is also a mysterious fairy Banshee, often heard but rarely seen.

Scotland being in the news at this point in time concerning independence from the UK, I thought it perfect timing I Finally Officially Welcome Her.

Her name explained: Növa’s name is derived from Latin, with Irish/Scottish elements thrown in, as she wears the breastplate of the Highland Clan Gordon.
Her first name Növa means “new” in Latin, (a new animal in my series of foxes). “O” comes from the Banshee element, as most clan members who had a banshee attached to them had either O or Mac as their prefixes. And a Leveret is the proper name for a Juvenile Hare.

I have had a lot of fun researching names and their meanings plus mythological creatures of Celtic origins.

Wiki: The banshee (or banchee) (/ˈbænʃiː/ ban-shee), from Irish: bean sí [bʲæn ˈʃiː] (“woman of the barrows”) is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the underworld. In Scottish Gaelic mythology, she is known as the bean sìth or bean nighe and is seen washing the bloodstained clothes or armour of those who are about to die. In legend, a banshee is a fairy woman who begins to wail if someone is about to die.
The banshee may also appear in a variety of other forms, such as that of a hooded crow, stoat, hare and weasel – animals associated in Ireland with witchcraft.

Very, very fitting.

The crystal horn helps her second sight from her third eye, an antennae to enable her to sense the details of those about to die, so that she may release her sorrowful wail in due time.

I hope to add another Hare member to the series. Only Time will Tell.

Krampus

Hey Guys!

Hope you have all been well and are enjoying the change of season, no matter what side of the hemisphere you are on. ∴∅∴

I am new to this WordPress blogging thing so forgive any technical difficulties, hopefully it all runs smoothly…..!
I decided to start a section for news and things I have been doing in and around my studio… Kinda wish I started sooner, but I may go back and recap some past stuff at a later date. Hope you are interested in reading it cos I have heaps to share!

So getting on with it, my latest news is that I have *just* finished my latest piece, Krampus. He has become a favourite of friends and family so that’s pretty exciting to me…

Krampus has been in the works for a while, I actually started him in 2012 when I got the initial idea of a Devil Fox and wanted to make him a Halloween release, though things didn’t quite flow the way I wanted them to, and he is the first character I put on hold until the time was right…. Fast forward to a few months ago, when I started on my latest project with completely different intentions. This fox though, had his own intentions, and with a roughy toughy kinda look to him, and I knew he was the one that was meant to be the Devilish Fox, so I resurrected him as Krampus. This time he flowed perfectly to completion, on Friday 13th June, Full Moon in Sagittarius, which I took as a lucky sign. ∴Ψ∴

Krampus is a ye old European mythological character, who is St Nicholas’s dark counterpart. The two associates come to visit the children on St Nicks day, 6th December, and if you have been good, you get presents and sweets from St Nick, but if you have been naughty Krampus spanks you and gives you coal and a broom. If you have been an utter brat that year, he takes you away in a pouch on his back, the stuff of nightmares! This all predates modern day Santa of course. Being from Slovakia, my parents keep the spirit alive by dressing up as St Nick and Krampus each year and come over to scare my children to behave (wish it actually worked!) haha.

I’ll get some proper photos of him soon and add them to the Taxidermy section on here, but for now you have the one I posted on Instagram.

And that’s all for today, I’ll write again soon, I am almost finished naming my Hare so that’ll be news for next time.
